Balancing Mind, Body & Spirit

About Us

Welcome to Personal Pilates

Personal Pilates is a studio honouring the original work of Joseph Pilates – Contrology.

Our teacher, Laura, also offers regular Pilates mat group classes in Secret Harbour where she utilises her knowledge and experience of other forms of movement training.

“Contrology (Pilates) is complete coordination of mind, body, and spirit. Through Contrology you first purposefully acquire complete control of your own body, and then proper repetition of its exercises, you gradually and progressively acquire the natural rhythm and coordination associated with all your subconscious activities.”

Studio Sessions

Our studio is located in the beautiful community of Meadow Springs, Western Australia.

Everybody of all ages and abilities are welcome to come to the studio and explore Pilates as a System.

What to Expect

As a new client you will explore the full system of Contrology the way it was intended by the founder, Joseph Pilates. The studio is fully equipped with classical apparatus from Contrology to Balance Body and Pilates Design.

Once you have completed your first private session where we talk about goals, exercise/order selection and introduce you to the apparatus, you will then begin to practice your individual program in an open studio format.

Here we encourage you to start to learn your own exercises (called your “order”) under the guidance of Laura. You will deepen your understanding on how to work independently through the System and, over time, you will grow to have a practice that is strong, confident and with a deeper understanding of Contrology.

Contrology is a system that requires discipline and consistent practice in order to feel the benefits over a number of years. For this reason, Laura recommends that you try and aim to train a minimum of twice a week.

How to Start

  • Fill in the New Client Enquiry Form below. Here you will be asked what days and times you are available to practice, this way we can make sure that we can suit your needs.
  • Why not come into the studio and see what we are all about? You can do this by booking a free 15 min visit. Laura will greet you and show you around the studio and answer any questions that you may have.
  • Purchase your Starter Pack and book your first session. The $120 Starter Pack includes 1 x 55 minute private session (where we will discuss your needs, begin to design your individual program and get you ready to work in an open studio format) and 2 x 55 minute open studio sessions. These sessions have a maximum of 3 – 4 people working together on their own individual programs, in a fun and supportive space, under the guidance of Laura.

The Benefits of Pilates

Why Pilates?

Increased Strength

While most exercise programs involve strengthening some aspect of the body, Pilates works to strengthen muscles we all use throughout the day.

Improved Balance

Things that you do every day can interfere with the proper alignment of your spine (e.g. picking up the kids) which can eventually impact your balance and weaken your core. Pilates focuses on strengthening your core which is essential for good balance.

Greater Flexibility

Pilates greatly improves flexibility and helps your body reach its maximum potential. Improving your flexibility can lead to better performance in sports-related activities, make everyday tasks easier as well as help you avoid activity-based injuries.

Non Impact

Because Pilates is low-impact, it is a safe exercise choice for people of any age and ability. The chance of injury is much lower than other types of workouts. Pilates is often used for physical therapy and people healing from injury.

Calmer Mind & Soul

In addition to your body, Pilates can also benefit your mind & soul. It improves circulation, helps release muscle tension and, with the focus on your breathing, takes your mind off your day-to-day worries and relieves stress. The smooth, balanced movements will also help quiet your mind and promote overall feelings of well-being.

What people say about us

Laura has a gentle, no excuses approach with all levels catered for. I started 2 years ago and I did what I could, when I could. And I started not being able to do anything! 8 reps for me meant I would be lucky to do 3! She has seen me through vertigo, sore backs, sore necks, colds, etc etc making sure I went at my own pace. Thank you! You are changing my life!”

“I love what Laura does to my body, I walk out of class feeling taller and muscles elongated. I sleep soundly on the days I do Pilates with her. For someone who just doesn’t stretch, these classes help me immensely.

Thank you Laura!”

Port Kennedy

What a class!! My glutes were cooked! And the girls felt the same. The unanimous score was 10/10.

You are a very special woman, so natural, so talented, so at ease and so invaluable to all of us. Your classes are simply amazing. My body has slowly returned from hibernation.”
